The Central FSSAI License represents the highest tier of food safety certification in India, designed for large-scale food businesses with extensive operational footprints, significant production capacities, and cross-border food operations. This premium license category is governed directly by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) headquarters and is mandatory for enterprises engaged in interstate operations, import-export activities, or those exceeding substantial financial thresholds.
As the most comprehensive form of food license in India, the Central FSSAI License signifies a business's commitment to the highest standards of food safety, quality management, and regulatory compliance. It serves as a passport for national and international food trade, enabling businesses to operate across state boundaries and engage in global food commerce while adhering to India's stringent food safety regulations.
Central FSSAI License is issued for a period of 1 to 5 years, depending on the applicant’s choice. Longer validity reduces renewal hassles.
Government fee for Central FSSAI License is ₹7,500 per year (excluding professional charges).
The processing time is usually 20–30 working days, subject to authority approval and inspection.
Renewal must be done at least 30 days before expiry. Late renewal may attract penalties or license cancellation.
Operating without a valid FSSAI License may result in penalties up to ₹5 Lakhs or imprisonment under the FSS Act.
